Some say that the American Voter is so barraged with Television Ads, Radio Ads, Direct Mail and Phone Calls that by the time the election rolls around they are totally oblivious to the entire election. Is the electorate completely brainwashed? Some say yes, and there have been studies as to how many hours people spend watching TV, reading the newspaper and how many political advertising impressions they have received. The number is alarming.
Indeed, those alone do not count all the pens, bumper stickers, and flimsy campaign signs either. So, most would say: Yes, the electorate is completely "brainwashed" could not agree more, the mass media hysteria, sound and fury and nightly chaos and contrived controversy on TV, seems to be their add-on memory, digested without chewing and accepted as fact. Their minds completely surrendered to the tube.
This is a sad commentary on the American Voter and an unfortunate truth about how far all this has gone. The Presidential Campaigning started nearly 2.5 years before the election date and all we have seen and heard are detracting comments from the politicians who have chosen to throw they hat into the ring. Some are wondering why we pick our leaders this way and believe that politics is no way to run the United States of America or human civilizations.
If you find yourself nodding your head or agreeing as you are reading this article, perhaps you might remember that you too are a voter and you too are someone who can help bring about change in the election process. We need to stop voting for those who use negative campaign ads even though we all know that they are the most effective. Sad but true. Something Serious to Contemplate in 2008.
