Democrats, including Texas Democrats believe that the peace and prosperity of United States of America is assured by the maintenance of a powerful and capable military. A strong army, swift and stealth navy and rapid fire air-force with outstanding offensive as well as defensive capabilities. The welfare of the individual solider - the one who actually risks his life and limb to protect his motherland and her inhabitants is the singe most important element in our security policy. This can be done by providing them with excellent pay, higher health insurance coverage, family welfare benefits while in service and after retirement. But on the battlefield, we can show our care and concern for our brave soldiers by providing them with the best materials and technologically advanced guns, communication and infiltration tools, first aid assistance.
Texas Democrats agree with the general Democratic policy of non-interference in other nation's internal affairs. They are opposed to the invasion of Iraq by President George Bush, a republican. Democrats favor conflict resolution at international levels through mediation, negotiation and non-violent intervention. This is the reason they are encouraging North Korea, Libya, Cuba, Venezuela and other countries with which it has ideological differences and/or policy differences to enter into meaningful dialogue with the United States to end their cold war.
Democrats believe it is critical that we keep faith with those who defend us. In our pursuit of national security, Texas Democrats support:
- A well equipped military with sufficient resources to maintain and enhance our defense capacities;
- Safeguards to prevent the imposition of national security policies that would violate or conflict with the Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution; and
- Increasing our national security through the competent use of nonviolent intervention, mediation, and conflict resolution at home and abroad and to ensure that war is always a last resort
