Candidates, they are the men and women who run for any public office. The most widely known candidates are generally the presidential candidates. The current leaders in the 2008 election are Senator Barack Obama, Rudy Giuliani, Senator Hilary Clinton, and Fred Thompson. Each candidate has his or her own personal beliefs and opinions which they are hoping will get them elected. Below is just some background information on each of the candidates.
In no particular order, we will begin with Senator Barack Obama. Senator Obama is running as a democrat. Obama is currently a senator from the state of Illinois. Obama is a strong critic of the Bush administration, and he has often criticized the administration for poor response to emergency. Obama hopes to establish a single, universal health care program before the end of the next presidential term. Obama is also a strong opponent to the War in Iraq. Senator Obama also hopes to reform the social security system to create a stable safety net for seniors.
Next is Rudy Giuliani. Giuliani is the former mayor of New York, and he is very well known for his actions during the 9/11 crisis. Giuliani is running for president as a republican. Giuliani has been a supporter of much of the Bush administration in the past, including helping the Bush campaign in '04. Many leading republicans and democrats' alike contest that Giuliani is not conservative enough to win the vote of American republicans. One example of this was Giuliani's support of abortion.
Third is Senator Hilary Clinton. She is a senator from New York, and is running for the democratic nomination. Clinton is married to former president, Bill Clinton. Senator Clinton follows liberal beliefs by being pro-choice, as well as working to establish a universal health-care system. Clinton is also an avid opponent to the Bush administration as well as the War in Iraq.
Last is Fred Thompson. Thompson is a former senator from Tennessee and is running as a republican. Thompson became famous from his role as an actor, especially in the series Law and Order. Thompson has often voiced his opinion about heated topics such as global warming. Thompson believes that it is doubtful that humanity is to blame for global warming. Thompson is also a supporter of immigration reform, and hopes to secure the nations borders. Thompson is also a supporter of the War in Iraq and is very opposed to withdrawing from Iraq.
These are just brief overviews of each candidate. To make a truly educated vote each individual voter should research the candidates for themselves to find out who they truly believe deserves their vote.
