Fred Thompson is the former Senator from Tennessee and better known to masses as actor on Law & Order. Announced his candidacy very late and makes the least appearances of any candidate which is weird given he announced months later and would need to play catch up.
He seems to make more authoritative speeches on Law & Order than he does as a candidate. Funnily enough has a mini feud with conservative leaning Fox News even though along with Huckabee is the candidate true conservatives love as he is pro life, against same sex unions, supports the right to bear arms strongly and is a Christian (but not on his first wife).
In the recent You Tube debates he admitted to owning weapons and that he passionately supports the 2nd Amendment. He is somebody that identifies Ronald Reagan as someone who he is a great admirer of and a Thompson presidency will probably follow many of the tenants and positions that Reagan himself advocated.
Has been appointed to various figurehead positions over the years that generally don't look good in hindsight like as an advisor to defense team of Scooter Libby (Cheney's advisor who was later pardoned by Bush after being found guilty of leaking classified information) There is not too much else to say about him other than he universally gets cheers at all the Republican debates but I think even moderate Republicans realise that he would hard sell to the broader audience.
Fred Thompson will probably head back to acting once his nomination is unsuccessful and end up being more watched and better paid than if he was president.
